The Case for Mallet style Putters

Mallet style putters have become the best-selling putters right now, due to the excellent stability this type of putter gives to you while putting . A mallet putter is extremely balanced, has a bigger putting head than blade type putters, and generally are heavier than a blade-style putter.

Putters in the mallet style also are higher in their MOI than regular putters. What this means is that the clubhead will twist less on an off-center hit, so the ball stays on a straighter line and doesn’t lose as much of it’s speed than when struck by a normal putter. Mallet putters perform most optimally with a mecahnical, straight-through putting stroke. Even if your style is a bit deifferent than that, it doesn’t mean you can’t use a mallet putter . It just means that you may not get all the design benefits mallet putters offer . If you aren’t willing to change your style , you may want to look at some the newer mid-mallets putters.

New Mallet designs might seem quite funky , but many still have a fairly traditional look. If you can handle the large, exotic shapes of some of the newer-style mallet putters (like the Sabertooth putter ), you will find them to be a big help to your golf game. If you prefer a more traditional look, some of the simpler mallet style putters may help your putting game more.
